Mindful Eating and the Embarrassing Photo – Day 4
I was a bit hesitant about displaying this ‘before-photo’ on my blog; this is why I didn’t post it at the beginning. Still, it seems important to show this embarrassing evidence in order to provide something to compare it with later. This photo was taken a couple of weeks before I commenced this attempt at mindful eating, but I think it gives a good idea about what I’m up against.
Trying Not to Focus Too Much on the Weighing Scale
I weighed myself again today and my weight seems to be falling surprisingly quickly; apparently I’ve already lost almost 1 ½ kg (I’m now 82.8kg). I don’t want to focus too much on this measurement though as I want this to be a permanent lifestyle change and not just a fad diet. Having said that, I would like to stay below 73kg as this is about the weight where I feel most comfortable.
Paul. That photo of you is not embarrassing. You are not tubby, perhaps just need to get into fighting shape? But it does remind me of those shots where the person stands up straight and bingo, is kilos lighter! I should be so lucky… So (here is yo mamma speaking) shoulders up, head back, tummy tucked… and no need for a diet. See? Can I talk myself out of almost anything healthy as well? You betcha 😀
Hi Cat, I think it wouldn’ be so bad if I lived back in Ireland. You can hide a lot with the right clothes. In Thailand though, it is harder to hide.
Agreed. Sweaters. Coats. Triple layers does help if you are close to your suitable weight. But all that stuff on a fat person just makes them fatter!
Good morning Cat, it is good to see that I’m not the only one who likes to get up early. Maybe instead of clothes it might be possible to do something with mirrors; I’d have to hire somebody to follow me around with mirrors though 🙂
Good morning Paul. It’s not about liking to get up, it’s about not sleeping. I’ve been up before the sun… sigh… I dream of sleeping in.
Mirrors? Now that’s a good idea. Either that, or Photoshop filters 😉
I like the mornings. The house is peaceful as my son doesn’t wake up for another hour. I can get a good start on work.
I love mornings as well. I don’t have a little one, but I find the coolness of the day refreshing. Throwing open the balcony doors to feel the morning breeze in while listening to the birds wake up is a great start of a day. I just wish that going to sleep and waking up had a longer stretch between the two is all.
I tend to go to bed early. I have gone from being a night owl to an early bird. I’m often asleep before nine. My son usually wakes up a few times during the night though.
Being asleep before nine would be heaven but I know it’s not going to happen. I’m usually in bed a little after 11. If I’m not asleep by 12.50 then I get up and watch the History channel, or National Geo. I’ve learned all sorts of useless tidbits after 2am. And watching the sun come up after a night like that does not garner the same warm and fuzzy thoughts it used to.
Hi Cat, I don’t want to sound like a broken record but meditation is great for getting to sleep. There are special relaxation meditations you can do before going to bed that should make you sleepy. If you do a search on YouTube you will find plenty of guided relaxation videos for sleep.
I think you are right though to get out of bed if you can’t sleep; apparently lying in bed awake is bad for you because your mind begins to associate lying in bed with being awake.
Paul that may be a before picture for you but I’d be pleased if it was an after one for me.
I’m only joking but I could do with losing a few kilos myself. I’m currently 76kg and 72 would be my ideal weight. That’s ideal as in a toned up, regular gym session 72 kilo.
Hi Martyn, 72kg would be about right for me too. My weight fell to 69kg about a year and a half ago but a couple of kg more than that is fine for me because I want to keep the muscles 🙂
Hi Paul,
Is that a Beer belly I see????? Just kidding 🙂 Before I lived in Thailand people used to say to me that Thai people are skinny because of their diet.
Living in Thailand for 5 years taught me that this wasn’t the full story. Some Thai’s are very overweight. And I myself gradually started to pile the pounds on. I went from 80 kilos up to 95 kilos. That was some real good eating!
After a while I dropped down to about 85 kilos through eating less and doing a bit more exercise. I felt a lot healthier, and I could buy pants that fitted me properly again.
Thanks Mark, it is embarrassing when I’ve had to take clothes back to the shop here because they were too small.
