Hello Paul,
Just started listening to your podcast… I am going on 41 myself, started a bit of Muay Thai myself in the US last year, now moved to Spain where I hope to start again in the coming weeks. Find it an amazing sport and was hooked since I saw my 1st live fight in Bangkok.
Anyway, was wondering about 2 things, and apologies if you´ve already covered. 1) Do you spar, train full-contact, etc and are you training for an actual fight? 2) I am incredibly inflexible, and this is so important in Muay Thai…do you find at this age you can get to the requisite level of flexibility, especially as it pertains to throwing high kicks?
Thanks and look forward to hearing more!
Hi Ricardo and thanks for commenting. At the moment I’m only working with the instructor so no real sparring – just pad work mostly. I hope to be able to join regular class at a later date but I just don’t have the time now. I have always been fairly flexible and don’t seem to have any problems with high kicks. I think people can still try train for flexibility no matter what their age; there are seventy year olds practicing Tai Chi who can still kick high.
