Funarium Provides Even More Things to Do with kids in Bangkok
I had never even heard of Funarium until yesterday morning. It has been raining here in Minburi for the last few days so I was looking for an indoor location for our weekly family day out. As usual when I’m lost for ideas I turned to Google; I typed ‘things to do with kids in Bangkok’ into the search engine. I’ve been doing this a lot recently and hadn’t been expecting anything new. I was persistent though and eventually found the Funarium website.
The Road to Funarium
Funarium looked promising but I was a bit worried about venturing that far into the city by car. Traffic jams are just no fun and finding parking can be such a nightmare in some parts of the city. I considered using the new airport link, but there does not seem to be any train stations near to Funarium. It is situated in between Sukhumvit and Rama IV; the nearest BTS station is Thong Lo but this would be a long walk with a toddler. I bit the bullet and took the car.
I was able to use the Motorway all the way to Rama IV. It turned out that the traffic wasn’t too bad. Funarium is on a side road near to Carefour and we found it easily enough. It was still early so there was plenty of parking available.
How Fun is Funarium?
My son didn’t know where to look when we get inside; there was just so many things calling his attention. Most of the activities are on the ground floor but there are also some play rooms upstairs as well. Funarium is divided into zones; activity zone, play zone, party zone, and the ‘eat and relax’ zone.
The play zone was impressive and it was possible for adults and kids to join in the fun. It is similar to the Playpad at Fashion Island; although it is probably a big bigger. There were plenty of things to climb up, bounce off, and slide down. One of the things my son particularly liked was the bike riding track. They had bikes of different sizes and all had stabilisers. The kids were racing against each other and there were occasional crashes; they were all wearing safety helmets though so it wasn’t dangerous. This area also has roller skating; they take it turns with an hour for bikes and an hour for roller skating.
We next went upstairs and visited the art room. There were lots of activities going on here for kids and you just take whatever material you want and get stuck in. My son tried a bit of painting but he was soon eager to get back to bouncing off things.
One of the nicest things about Funarium is the restaurant area. Many of the adults set up base here so they can relax while the kids go wild. There are special tables where young kids can sit with tiny chairs. There is a kids menu as well as an adult menu. I settled for coffee but my son had fried race which came in the shape of a star; he got a kick out of that.
Is Funarium Worth It?
The cost of admission for my son was 180THB; my wife and I both paid 90THB each. Bigger kids have to pay 300 THB; although those over 13 years old pay the same amount as adults. The admission covers three hours and if you stay longer then you need to pay more. The food is a bit costly but reasonable enough considering. You wear a bracelet with a barcode and you pay for your restaurant bill when you are leaving.
My son enjoyed Funarium and I think most adults with children will appreciate it as well. It has enough to keep kids occupied for at least a few hours. As well as the different zones there are also other activities like magic shows, cooking lessons, and music throughout the day. If you are looking for things to do with kids in Bangkok on a rainy day it is probably ideal.

Hi Paul,
Heard about this place but never saw a review, so it’s great to get some first hand information and there’s a place to add on the ‘things to do with the kids in BKK’ list.
Thanks for the review.
Hi Camille, my son enjoyed it anyway.
Hi Paul,
There are some more options for things to do with kids listed on AngloINFO; http://bangkok.angloinfo.com/af/281/bangkok-kids-activities-and-childrens-days-out.html
And in our What’s On Guide; http://bangkok.angloinfo.com/information/whatsonwhat.asp?cat=29
I run the Thailand AngloINFO sites, but thought you might find some new options listed here, even if you don’t want to post this. I’ve got two kids, 5 & 7 and know how difficult it is to keep them amused!
Cheers
Gavin
Thanks Gavin, there is plenty of useful information on your website. I’m always looking for options for where to take my son.
Sounds like a good day out.
Can you recommend any classes or activites for kids around 1 years old on Bangkok?
Hi BB, that’s a tough one. They do have a soft play area in Funarium for younger children. I think also say the same in YoYo land in Seacon Square. We lived in Lopburi when my son was that age.
