Online Awareness Training/Mindfulness Coaching

One-to-one mindfulness coaching gives you with the skills you need to get a better handle on life. These online private sessions mean you can benefit from this life-changing approach in a more convenient way. For example, we can arrange sessions for a time that suits you, and there will be no need for you to travel anywhere. Some of us can feel a bit uneasy about joining a live class, so private online sessions can be a far more comfortable way of doing things. 

About Me 

My interest in mindfulness began in the early 80’s when I turned to meditation as way to deal with the difficulties I was facing as a teenager. I definitely noticed some improvements from engaging in this practice, but a lack of guidance meant I didn’t stick at it consistently enough to see lasting change. I did get a taste for possibilities of meditation and awareness training, so I kept on returning to it over the next couple of decades. I even tried setting up a class for my fellow nursing students in 1997.

It wasn’t until I moved to Thailand in 2002 that I was able to maintain a mindfulness practice long enough to see how truly life-changing it could be. I started going on meditation retreats, and spending time with Thai meditation masters, and over the next few years I was able to overcome a serious alcohol addiction along with my long-term anxiety issues.

I was given such brilliant support by Paul when I first left rehab. I found the Skype format worked really well and his help with my mindfulness practice has stayed with me ever since. Paul’s wise words and support helped me find some calm in my frantic head and lead me on the path to find a simple daily practice that I still love. Many thanks.

I always came away from sessions with Paul in a great mood, feeling relaxed. I also always felt that I had learned a new skill to put into practice.

  1. I do believe AA is very dangerous and it is a cult based group. People are unaware of it and there has been many suicides. First step is a lie . We are not powerless but powerful

  2. I’ve been going to AA for a year or so post treatment. Suicides rates seem high but it’s usually used to stress how dangerous this disease is. It’s also hard to get any statistics due to anonymity.

    I’ve been through the 12 steps. Now what? Spread the message they say. If there was another way I’d try it. I’ve tried Lifering. Any suggestions

    1. a.a is a terrible organization that at best only i out of 20 people may stop drinking -the relatives of the founder his wife a few yrs ago was making a couple of million dollars plus a yr. it formed because there was limited insurance coverage and was quickly picked up by the courts to deem a person attend 12 step meetings why? no cost to the court or city better than giving some treatment ever see the trash that goes to meetings in lower economic areas? watch the 13th step a.a should have been banned as a wealthy nation we should have treatment centers and priofessionals envolved passing off shit as treatment is insulting to such a rich nation watch 13th step

  3. I’m a fan of Paul Garrigans work as I have experience in Buddhist meditation practices. Maybe I’m already under the AA spell but I’d miss the group if I branched out

    1. Hi Dermot, if AA is helping you then you may just want to add an extra tool into your existence arsenal. There are books about using mindfulness with the 12 Steps and perhaps that could be helpful? There are also options like Refuge Recovery if they have these groups in your area – you could maybe do these on top of your AA meetings?

    I will look into Refuge Recovery and add to my AA. I think you hit the nail on the head about reawakening my mindfulness practices.

    I was reading your site, I agree, there is something missing from my life/recovery. People tell me I’m doing great but the feeling is one depression and slog.

    I’m clean and sober nearly a year.
    I noticed a while back that you were involved with Hope. I made contact with them, place sounds great. Then I heard it was 12 step and drifted off the idea. Could also be my lack of mojo and already heavily involved with AA and attend NA and CA.

What is included depends very much on the client’s indiviudal needs (e.g. most of my clients have addiction issues).   6. I’m lost drowning in a bottle of alcohol. So sad. I have everything anyone could want. It doesn’t make sense.

    1. Hi Amy, I found that once I was hooked, alcohol poisoned everything. It didn’t make any sense to me either. I used techniques like mindfulness to help me stop listening to the craving mind instead of waiting for it to make sense.
