The Benefits of Alcoholism (Video)

In this video I discuss the benefits of alcoholism and other addictions. It might sound a bit bizarre to claim there any benefits to this self-destructive behaviour but my experience is that there are.

Hi Paul, you really became skinnier in the face, on your photo you look like a healthy lad, are sure that losing all that weight is healthy?
Concerning addiction, I saw a lot of times people were escaping mental disorders like ADHD, (Manic) Depressions or Posttraumatic Stress Disorders. Some recovered now, but still need medicines for their illnesses and now and then fall back in their old habits.

    • Hi I-nomad, I sort of wish that I could lose the weight from my body without losing it from my face. I don’t feel comfortable with a big tummy so it has to go. I also have a history of heart disease in my family so I need to be careful. Unfortunately a lot of people do fall back into old habits – it is harder where people have a dual diagnosis (addiction and a mental illness) if one part of their condition isn’t being treated.

Yes, I understand Paul and I respect your efforts.
BTW I forgot to mention adrenaline addicts, of course everyone needs some adrenaline especially in case of stress, but there are a lot of ‘adrenaline-junkies’ and you can see them working out in the gym, jogging around or biking in the mountains.
Of course this is good for a six-pack too, but one tends to abuse one’s own natural drug.
Once you stop, you will undergo the same feelings as any other drug withdrawal.

  3. Hello,
This is my first time posting here. I too am originally from Ireland but now live in Hungary. I too am an addict and alcoholic, staying sober and well among the Magyar people (despite their love of alcohol). A question: Thailand and sobriety – not two words i would expect to find in one sentence. Tell me more?
    All the best C.

    • Hi Charles, there is a lot of drinking going on in Thailand but once you move outside that scene you don’t really notice it anymore. It is the same in Ireland. I go back there every year and don’t really notice all the drinking that goes on.
