It benefits other people alright. I for instance work as an interpreter in Ireland and am not in touch with Irish people much when I´m not working, so your podcasts have been useful to me because you speak in your normal tone (no one speaks as fast as Dave Fanning in real life!). Besides that, stories of recovery are always inspirational. Everyone has issues and could do with a bit of help. Thanks.

    • Thanks for that. I’m actually a big fan of Dave fanning. I previously worked as an ESL teacher here in Thailand, and some students thought I spoke way too fast. On the plus side though there are now a few Thais with Dublin accents :-)

You´re welcome. I´m his fan too. He has great taste in music. Plus he introduced me to Nick Cave and other great musicians. All the best.

  3. I’m really enjoying your pod casts. If you write the way you speak, I’d be happy to read your books. Thanks

your a brave man in front of the camera
my first video podcast will be out the 20th and it’s bad enough my voice is there, but i doubt anyone will ever see me in front of the camera
keep up da work, it’s inspiring one way or da other

    • Thanks Tom, I’ll keep my eyes open for your video podcast. The 20th is my birthday so I should remember :) I did a few radio interviews and appeared on TV to promote my last book. It was nerve wracking in the beginning, but I got used to it. The only thing that really bothers me is that I’ve an awful habit of saying “you know” at the end of every sentence.

Love the blog, I am also a recovering alcoholic here in New York City and hearing the podcasts as well reading the articles have helped with my continued sobriety. best of luck keep up the good work.

Hi Paul – I’m about 3.5 years sober. i just discovered your podcasts and have listened to some of the older ones. I particularly liked your insight on the frailty of memories and our mind’s tendency to skew memories through a positive lens. And further how that tendency can convince us that drink might have been part of the recipe for these good times. I hadn’t put my finger on that but agree completely.
Thanks for taking the time to share – I plan to pick up your book.
Regards from the center of the US.

    • Nice to hear from you Bob. Memory can be so tricky at times. The mind can create a version of the past that never actually existed – like a Hollywood production of a true story :)
