Excellent, Paul. Thank you for sharing your experience. Losing that meditative connection in any form of recovery often realtively quickly leads to the “discomfort” you referred to. And that discomfort is a big message. Getting derailed into “obsessiveness land” is no fun!!! And of course, can also lead to real disaster.
Take care and hope the weather continues to hold up for you!
Mary
Thanks Mary, it can just be so easy to follow wrong paths in life.
This post is gold, on so many levels. It is a reminder to my future self that meditation will be part of my journey. After I was sober for a year and not coping with my anxiety, I wrote a post that focused on the question ‘how do I lose my shit without drugs or alcohol’ I had never really known a way other than getting high to release my stress. It wasn’t long after that I began using anti-depressants, which for me have done wonders and have been a remarkable short term fix. This post reminded me of the turmoil I encountered and I admire your ability and dedication to persist where others may have given up. The way you you talk of fighting, and what it means to you is inspirational too. My life reflects this a little. It was the pursuit of study that has kept me sober. In many ways I want to stay a student. Being qualified scares me, it’s the change, it’s the after. All good though, thanks for the post.
Hi Paul, it is like stress and anxiety gets trapped in the body. I’ve found that meditation releases all this pent up negative energy. The problem is that I often don’t realise when the stress and anxiety is building up until it becomes uncomfortably high. I hope to get better at dealing with such mental discomfort before it becomes a problem.
Great life advice. There are times when I get exactly into this kind of funk because things aren’t going as imagined. It is just time to relax and recalibrate with what is possible and what should be done based on the reality of the situation.
I think these great self-realizations around muay thai will make for a great read.

Thanks Jeff, I think the worst thing to do in these situations is to be stubborn and keep trying to push ahead- it just leads to more discomfort. Unfortunately I’m sometimes willing to put up with a lot of discomfort before I’ll face reality.
