Greetings from Phuket

I’ve taken a few days off to travel down to Phuket. I came down on Thursday night and the journey took me 12 hours. It turned out to be a tougher drive than I’d expected, and I felt completely knackered afterwards. I was like a zombie for most of yesterday. I’m not looking forward to the return trip.

My reason for travelling down to Phuket is to practice Muay Thai. I’ve been lazy in recent months, and the aim of this trip is to revamp my love of this martial arts. I’m going to be devoting myself to Muay Thai over the next few days. You can follow my progress on my other blog Middle Aged Muay Thai

  1. Paul – I believe there’s some good Muay Thai training camps on Phuket and there’s probably quite a few westerners training at them. You’d better get some energy back and some spring in your toes because someone’s going to want a pop at the new boy in town.

Best of luck and fair play to you.

    1. On my first day here I walked into the camp and picked the biggest foreigner I could find. I then beat him up in front of his friends. Now they respect me. No wait – that was a movie I watched 🙂

  2. Paul, what did you think of Phuket? We never made it that far south. Our daughter just visited there, Krabi and Koh Phi Phi and has shared her thoughts, I was just wondering what yours were?

    1. Hi Snap, I enjoyed the break there. It is the top destination in Thailand for people who are interested in Muay Thai. I also notice that everywhere you go on the island there seems to be people out running or doing exercise. I associate Chiang Mai with books, Phuket with sports, and Pattaya with … I better not go there 🙂

I think Phuket is a nice place to visit. There are some beautiful spots on the island, and there are some nice beaches. I don’t think I could live there though.
